French Antarctic Ornithological Mission
This cover commemorates J.B. (Jean-Baptiste) Thiebot and the 57th ornithologic mission to Terres Australes et Antarctiques Francaises (French Southern and Antarctic Territories, aka TAAF).
It was posted on May 10, 2006 at the Martin de Vivies settlement in France's St. Paul and Amsterdam Islands, located in the South Indian Ocean.
The cover is franked with the TAAF 50-centime stamp (Scott #357) noting the 10th anniversary of the disappearance of Paul-Emile Victor, a French ethnologist and explorer, for whom Mt. Victor, in the Antarctic Belgica Mountains, is named. Additionally, it is franked with the .01 and .02 Euros values (Scott #295 and #296) of the Arms design issued on Jan. 2, 2002.
